This year the Whites’ parents had the opportunity to see the Blues lads in League play and likewise the Blues parents. As 2018 draws to a close it seems appropriate to report how the lads have fared as one team so far. It is certainly true we have had more downs than ups this season especially at the beginning but we can see the team starting to gel and gives us much needed encouragement for the coming year.
Devon (GK):A leader at the back, great encouragement shouted regularly backed up by some amazing stops and wonderful distribution.
Jack (GK): Our very own ‘Jack in the box’ who has such amazing spring to tip shots over the bar as well as a cat like agility on the deck.
Elliot: Getting bigger and stronger and starting to use the offside trap to his advantage whilst learning when a strong challenge might be needed at times.
Jody: Still Mr Unflappable at the back using close skills to get him out of trouble when required and still forms the double act with Elliot.
William: Mr Versatile who can play in any position and regularly does! Hardly ever puts a foot wrong (unless it’s from a throw in) and provides stability at the back or in midfield.
Lewis: One of the quickest players in the League has been invaluable this season earning several Man of the Match awards at the back using his pace to support the defence against pacier opposition. Amazing free kicks again this season with pin-point accuracy.
Joe: another quality utility player whether in midfield or like Lewis in defence where quick cover is needed and almost never gives the ball away.
Zak: Fair to say he has had some niggling injuries this season and the Whites parents haven’t seen the best of him yet but it never prevents him from getting stuck in and must have a tackle win percentage in the high 80s.
Corey: Rivals Lewis for pace and has scored a couple of belters this season which has either set the tone or brought us back into a game which looked lost. One on one I doubt there’s a better winger in the league.
Harlee: Deceptively nippy and uses his size to his advantage when one on one with quick feet. Links up well with his centre midfielders.
Charlie: A great season so far with a few goals tucked in from midfield. Always being in the right place at the right time whether to score or break up play has been his forte this season.
Billy: A big lad with a big heart, never afraid to take the ball up the pitch or get his head in where it hurts. Another who has also suffered a little with knocks this year so the best is yet to come we can be assured.
Finlay: The classic silky fleet footed winger with an eye for an inch perfect through ball to the strikers. Bags of tricks and can leave the opposition defence floundering.
George: has a sublime touch and ability to bamboozle a defender before even receiving the ball. Probably gets more assists than goals but this is to his credit and unselfishness and ability to hold the ball up superbly.
Mason: a fantastic addition to the squad (a bit like his Dad!). Powerful runner, great movement down the channels and can hit a ball as sweet as you like.
Onwards and upwards- hope the boys and parents all have a fantastic Christmas and a great New Year!
