Mercury Rising on Merseyside

Under 11s win Pilkingtons FC tournament in St Helens on hottest day of the year.

It has to be said that the tournament seasons are some of the best experiences of kids lives, bonding between games and LOTS of football. Saturday 29th June was no exception for the Celtic U11s. Competing with 7 other teams in Pilkingtons end of season tournament in St Helens.

Progressing through the group stages against unfamiliar teams Celtic were playing some fast paced excellent football. Midfield maestros, Defensive walls, Goalkeeping excellence and some superb strikes were on show.

The semi final saw the boys encounter a nervy 1st half against a Penlake team but they persisted with the fluid, fast football they had displayed all day and it gave the boys the reward they deserved of a final showdown against a not so unknown opponent in Stockport Junior Blues.

Baking in the hottest day of 2019 is a test for anyone but into the final they headed and you would not have know they had played a full 60 minutes of football before hand. More silky skills and screams of “it’s like watching Brazil” from the support. Our boys in Blue commanded the final with a convincing win against a team who were gracious in defeat. Well Done Stalybridge Celtic U11s.
