Celtic Juniors Walking Football Festival Strides Ahead

Stalybridge Celtic Juniors hosted their third annual walking football festival today (Saturday 13 July) in support of Cancer Warriors.

It was a warm summer’s day as twelve teams took on the challenge of walking football. Teams from the Juniors volunteers and parents, Cancer Warriors and proper walking football team Tameside Striders all played in the group stages of the competition. Players aged 18 to 80 took part and two women’s teams went toe to toe with the men.

Hospitality this year came from a bbq and Indian street food as well as Toy Story on the giant screen in the club house for younger fans not so keen on watching the football.

The competition was won by Mighty Spartans, a squad of volunteer coaches from Celtic Juniors, after a nail-biting penalty shootout.

The walking football festival once again was held in aid of Stalybridge charity Cancer Warriors. £650 was raised through player subs, profit from the food stalls and a raffle.

Huge thanks to everyone who organised such a great event.
