Earlier this year, players, their family members, and friends of the club planted 500 tree saplings at the Soccer School. What went into the ground as little more than twigs are now bursting into life with fresh growth and green leaves shooting out of the tops of the protective spirals.
After cutting back the thorn bushes which lined the far side of the field, two-foot lengths of willow were also planted, kindly donated by Martin from Staly Cricket Club. These have already more than doubled in length and will soon create a natural screen to stop balls being lost.
These early signs of growth are very positive that almost all the saplings have rooted and it is good to see all the different tree species thriving.
