The under 10s Blues Colts are raising money to take the boys on the trip of a lifetime to Camp Nou, Barcelona in June 2021. They have worked tirelessly so far to raise as much money as possible with lots of creative ideas to fit in with the ‘new normal’. Team manager Vicky Haynes tells us more;
The team had numerous bag packs and cycling in supermarkets to raise money but all this has been put on hold. Meanwhile, rather then dwell on what we can’t do and write it off before we have even started we have all as a team put our efforts into raising what money we can through things we can do.
We have had some hampers kindly donated from Morrison’s Denton – a gin hamper and 2 children’s sweet hampers and we have sold lots of tickets for these and would to thank everyone that has bought and helped sell tickets for these.
The kids all have a penny jar each and fill it up and bring to training every week. On 20th September the whole team took on a sponsored challenge – a kids 8 mile walk from Portland basin to Woodley, and then a 26 mile marathon distance walk for the ‘major athletes’ AKA Vicky, Paul, Dave and Johnny from Portland basin to the Swizzles factory in New Mills and back. This was a real test of endurance but what a day, the company was fantastic and the sun shone all day long. Although we had very tired legs it was fantastic to think we had raised money whilst having fun.
To think we have only been fundraising for 7 weeks we have pulled out all the stops and so far we have raised just under £3k which is an amazing achievement. I am so so proud of all my players for all their hard work, commitment and attitude to getting us where we want to be but I want to say a huge thanks to Clare Pritchard who not only deals with the team accounts, she is literally the most dedicated, on the ball and reliable person ever and has counted thousands in 2ps the last few months from penny jars. This just wouldn’t be possible without her help and support.
We are still looking for a sponsor for the trip for a kit so if anyone can help with this or even wants to help financially then that would be amazing, also if anyone has any links that could help with raffle prizes that would also be amazing as I am hoping in the new year we can do a raffle event at Stalybridge Celtic FC’s Bower Fold on a matchday.
So proud of each and everyone of them they make me really proud.
